Glass Beams Mesmerize Mumbai With A Hypnotic Live Performance

It was a standard classic Saturday  night for many, but for fans who landed at  the Nesco  to catch the Glass Beams show, it was a groundbreaking experience.

Last night in Mumbai, Glass Beams turned mystery into melody. The brainchild of Indian-Australian multi-instrumentalist Rajan Silva, the band has long thrived on a sense of enigma, his fellow members still choosing to remain unnamed, hidden behind shimmering masks and cosmic riffs. But what unfolded on stage was anything but distant.

They kicked off the night with their latest standout track, Horizon, tune that instantly electrified the crowd. Their hypnotic set though short lived lasted for about 1 hour 15 mins! proved why Glass Beams has become one of the most talked-about acts in the global psychedelic scene. From the textured transcendence of Mirage (2021) to the more expansive, soul-swaying soundscapes of Mahal (2024), the band’s evolution was evident in every note. The audience swayed as if under a shared spell, where East met West, and sitar-like licks melted into synth-fueled grooves.

For listeners who lose themselves in the meditative funk of Khruangbin or the tropical haze of BALTHVS, Glass Beams felt like coming home, but with a fresh, spiritual pulse that’s entirely their own.

As the trio stepped onto the stage, a collective hush rippled through the crowd, then awe. Their signature visual language was instantly arresting: ornate, jewel-encrusted masks catching the light, flowing silhouettes in muted tones moving in perfect rhythm. There was no fanfare, no theatrics, only an understated poise that drew every eye and ear into their orbit. By concealing their identities, Glass Beams seemed to amplify the music’s presence; the focus shifted entirely to sound and sensation. That quiet confidence set the tone for what would become an entrancing, slow-burning performance that unfolded like a ritual rather than a show.

As someone who’s had Glass Beams on a relentless loop for years, discovered them since their inception back in 2020, the first few notes hit like déjà vu and discovery all at once. The sound design was immaculate, every layer calibrated, every transition seamlessly woven into the stage’s atmosphere. When they slipped from Orb into Black Sands and then into the serpentine spell of Snake Oil, it was clear that precision and intuition coexisted beautifully in their set. Each track carried the familiar texture of their studio sound, yet pulsed with fresh, live energy, subtle improvisations that made every groove feel alive in the moment.

The crowd was a mosaic of faces and backgrounds, yet everyone seemed bound by the same invisible rhythm, swaying together under the warm, hypnotic wash of sound. It was less a concert, more a collective trance. And though the band never uttered a word throughout the night, they didn’t have to,their music spoke in tongues that needed no translation. If the chance arises to see them again, I’ll be front and center, ready to be transported once more.
